I have done some pretty awful things in my life, but this one comes to my head every time. Every year we go to my great aunt Babe’s. The adults are so disrespectful and won’t let us do anything, so we either go upstairs or downstairs. One time we played hide and seek upstairs, and it got messy.
It was a few years ago, when we were 10, and decided to play hide and seek upstairs. Our older cousin was counting while we were hiding. I hid in a closet, my younger cousin hid under the bed, and my sister hid behind the bed frame. My younger cousin was found first, then me. Our older cousin was still trying to find my sister. When she found her, we had some trouble trying to get her out. We had to pull the bed out a little bit, then she got out. When she got out though, it broke one of my great aunt’s lamps.
I was so upset that our parents would yell at me instead of my sister. My older cousin cleaned it up while the rest of us panicked. She told us three to go downstairs and tell our parents. We went downstairs, and did nothing. We were so scared because we felt bad. Our older cousin came downstairs and asked us if we told them. Of course we said no. She was mad at us, but we had to tell someone. We told our great aunt about what happened. She was pretty mad, but forgave us. Our parents were disappointed, but didn’t care to much since we have nothing to do at those types of family events.
I’ve learned from it because we now just go to the park across the street. No one bothers us while we are there, and it is much more peaceful. This year when we go back to her house, our older cousin will be off to college and we will be more bored then usual. Somehow, we will find something to do that is fun. Believe it or not, we will.
